Intaglio & Relief

Relief and Intaglio processes have a lot in common (despite using a matrix in quite the opposite manner) so we’ve grouped them here. With the equipment and supplies listed below, you can print woodcuts and linocuts, monotypes, collographs, etchings, drypoints, mezzotints, letterpress (creatively), and other etching press-based experimental media. We allow all oil and water based inks, but highly encourage using less toxic solvents whenever possible. There are many ways to clean up oily messes, and we can show you how! In our intaglio shop, we etch copper plates with ferric chloride only. We allow traditional and alternative grounds, but do not have a hot plate in the studio. We restrict spray paint application (for aquatints and plate prep) to our outdoor fire escape, and do not keep a rosin-box on site. Get in touch with us to find out what’s in stock and what you’ll need to BYO.
